A map of Piacenza with the positions of the French and Spanish armies and Austrian and Sardinian armies in May 1746. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). Oriented with north to top.

The Battle of Piacenza took place on 16 June 1746 between the French and Spanish army and the Austrians and Sardinians. This map shows the positions of the armies in May, together with fieldworks, around the city. The area covered extends from Crema (45°21'31"N 09°40'05"E) in the north to Genova (44°24'22"N 08°56'01"E) in the south; and from Alessandria (44°54'44"N 08°37'08"E) in the west to Cremona (45°08'10"N 10°01'40"E) in the east. Principal roads and settlements, together with administrative boundaries are shown.

Condition: seven fold lines; a 17.2 cm tear along left of central horizontal fold; bottom left, small piece cut off diagonally; trimmed. Verso: surface dirt; induced discolouration.
