The plan shows the damage inflicted by the French attack on the Utrecht and Zeeland lunettes and covers the bastions from the King William bastion in the south-east to the Belvedere bastion to the south-west. The lines of fire from the French batteries are shown. There is no key to the numbers and letters on the plan.
The town of Bergen op Zoom, fortified by Baron Menno van Coehoorn (1641-1704; Dutch military engineer) and garrisoned under the command of General Isaac Cronström (1661-1752; a Swedish officer serving as General in Chief of the Dutch army), was besieged by the French army under the command of General Count Ulrich Löwendahl (1700-55; a German-born Danish officer serving in the French army), from 14 July to 18 September, when the fortified town was taken by the French.
Condition: four fold lines; induced discolouration on verso.
