      A plan of the fortifications of Bergen op Zoom, 1747. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). Oriented with south-east to top.

      A large-scale plan showing the bastions, ravelins and lunettes from King William's Bastion in the south-east as far as the Belvedere Bastion in the south-west. There is no key to the letters and numbers on the plan.

      The town of Bergen op Zoom, fortified by Baron Menno van Coehoorn (1641-1704; Dutch military engineer) and garrisoned under the command of General Isaac Cronström (1661-1752; a Swedish officer serving as General in Chief of the Dutch army), was besieged by the French army under the command of General Count Ulrich Löwendahl (1700-55; a German-born Danish officer serving in the French army), from 14 July to 18 September, when the fortified town was taken by the French.

      Condition: five fold lines; creased; brown spots on verso.
