      A sketch of the fortifications of Bergen op Zoom, 1747. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). Oriented with south-east to top.

      This appears to be a copy of RCIN 730151.b. The plan extends from the Wouw Ravelin in the south-east to Sleck Fort further south-west.

      The town of Bergen op Zoom, fortified by Baron Menno van Coehoorn (1641-1704; Dutch military engineer) and garrisoned under the command of General Isaac Cronström (1661-1752; a Swedish officer serving as General in Chief of the Dutch army), was besieged by the French army under the command of General Count Ulrich Löwendahl (1700-55; a German-born Danish officer serving in the French army), from 14 July to 18 September, when the fortified town was taken by the French.
