A map of the French siege of Menen, begun on 27 May, with the town capitulating on 4 June 1744. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). Oriented with north-east to top (cardinal points).

This large-scale map shows the French attack works on the hornwork protecting the bridge across the river on the south-east side of the town, and the further attack works on the bastions and lunettes of the south-west side of the fortress. Distinction is made between land liable to flooding (inondation), cultivated and fallow or pasture or rough ground.

Condition: one fold line; trimmed. Verso: bottom, right of centre, water-stained patch, shadow and ghosting from the removal of Cumberland's cipher label.
