A map of the French siege of Oudenaarde, 18-21 July 1745. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). Oriented with north to top (cardinal points).

The succesful French siege of Oudenaarde followed on from the French taking Tournai after the Battle of Fontenoy, and then Ath and Ghent. This map shows the French approach parallels (coloured in yellow), batteries and lines of fire.

Additional text: [top right, in rectangular panel, a key, 1-10 to the names of the demi lunes and lunettes of the fortifications of Oudenaarde.]

Condition: one fold line; some foxing. Verso: top left, water-stained patch, shadow and ghosting from the removal of Cumberland's cipher label.
