A topographical map of the area to the west and south of Mantua, showing the positions of the French and Imperial armies in July and August 1702. War of the Spanish Succession (1701-14). Oriented with north-west to top (compass rose).

The title appears bottom left, in a cartouche surmounted by the French coat of arms, flanked by semi-naked boys blowing trumpets and furled standards with, at the bottom left, the figure of Gianfrancesco Gonzaga (1395-1444) first Marquess of Mantova (1433-44) and, bottom right, a Roman soldier holding a shield, the words ‘La Ville de Mantoue’ engraved below; the whole in a plain rectangular frame.
