The important topographical features such as settlements, rivers, woods, relief and roads are shown in detail. Three categories of road can be distinguished: running through cuttings, bounded by hedges, or open or unfenced. Such information was an essential component of topographical intelligence. It is possible that this map is a later copy, made during the War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48), of an earlier map. Both wars were waged over part of the same territories and the earlier maps would have been invaluable for planning encampment locations.
The encampment ran through or near to the following settlements: Hulpen (La Hulpe 50°43'51"N 04°29'08"E), Genival (Genval 50°43'17"N 04°29'37"E), Chat. de Terveur (Tervuren 50°49'25"N 04°30'51"E), Over Ische (Overijse 50°46'27"N 04°32'04"E), Rosièrs (Rosières 50°43'51"N 04°32'41"E), Tombeek (50°45'20"N 04°34'09"E), Hoelberg (Huldenberg 50°47'21"N 04°34'59"E), Lombeeck (Loonbeek 50°48'33"N 04°36'34"E) and St Achtenroy (Sint-Agatha-Rode 50°47'09"N 04°37'51"E).
