An order of battle of the French and Spanish armies under the command of Marshal James Fitzjames, Duke of Berwick upon Tweed (1670-1734) in Spain in 1706. War of the Spanish Succession (1701-14). The tentative attribution to G. de la Haye is made on stylistic grounds.
The Duke of Berwick had been appointed on 29 November 1703 to command the French troops sent by Louis XIV to assist the French king's grandson Philip V in Spain. Berwick had been made a Marshal of France in February 1706 and was sent back to Spain, arriving in Madrid in March.
The order of battle is in two lines. The General Officers of the First Line are Lieutenant-Generals Davré, S.t Gille, Labadie, Mons.r le Duc de Popoli; Major-Generals (Marechaux de Camp) Medinila, Vicentello, La Verre, Tilli; Brigadiers Sandriga, Cordova, Beauvais, Polastro, Silleri, Castillo, Charni, Ronquillo, Poco Blanco.
The General Officers of the Second Line are Lieutenant-Generals Mons.r le Duc d'Avré, Mons.r de Hessi, d'Asfeld; Major-Generals Mahoni, Ponse, Chevalier de Croix; Brigadiers Doce ville, Belporte, Rufo, Chaves, Duburdet, Avilla, Pourville.
A key to the colours and symbols used to distinguish between battalions, squadrons of horse (Cavallerie) and squadrons of dragoons, is given bottom right. The numbers of regiments in the battalions and troops in the squadrons is given against the individual regimental and squadron names.
The attribution to Gabriel Delahaye is made on stylistic grounds.
