A map of the siege of Douai, 23 April to 26 June 1710, by the Allied army (Great Britain, Dutch Republic, Austria), commanded by John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough (1650-1722), resulting in the surrender of the town by the French. War of the Spanish Succession (1701-14). Oriented with south-east to top (compass rose).
A medium-scale map showing in detail the fortifications and approaches of the siege works, the extent of the flooding and marshy ground; the destinations of the roads are given.
The publication date of 1721 or later is taken from the date of the formation of the firm under Johannes Covens and Cornelis Mortier on 20 November 1721 (van Egmond, p.57).
