A view of the Spanish garrison marching out of Maastricht with the honours of war on 23 August 1632 following their capitulation to the Dutch. Eighty Years War (1568-1648).

The print shows Prince Frederick Henry of Orange to the left, mounted, watching as the Spanish garrison with all its equipage marches away from Maastricht. The annotations on the verso of the print refer to numbers 66-71 of Frankens catalogue of van de Velde’s works but the entry for this item seems to appear only under no.71 on p.55.

Each of the six plates is numbered, bottom right, and all six were designed to be pasted together to form a long panorama, as in this example.
