Captain Henry Warre was the commander of the frigate Mermaid. The Bay of Requin is on the south-east coast of Grenada. The view shows the action taking place during a wild storm, with the wind coming from the north-east, the rain lashing the land and streaks of lightning. The French crew of the Brutus, which was eventually captured by the Mermaid, are escaping from the corvette by sliding down a taut rope to reach the coast.
Several words in the title, and the name 'Henry Warre' are very faintly engraved in this example, which may be a proof copy.
