Engraving and etching; printed on paper; hand coloured; dissected and laid down on red linen | Scale: not stated. 1:171,400 approx. | RCIN 732088

A map of the encampments of the French and Allied armies in the Bishopric of Paderborn in 1759. Seven Years War (1756-63). Oriented with north to top.

Encampments are shown by hand-coloured engraved rectangles. There is no explanation to the colours used but it is reasonable to suppose that they are the same, as regards the encampments, as those employed on RCIN 732085: the French camps are in yellow, and the ‘Enemy’ [i.e. the British Combined army], are in red. What are possibly march routes, or additional camps, together with river crossings, are indicated by ink lines. Extensive sections of engraved text throughout the map give the historical background to some of the more important towns.

Additional text: [bottom left, a key to the conventional signs:] Explication [and] Remarque.
