A map of the encampment of the Allied army under the command of the Duke of Cumberland at Bouwel, 26 May 1747. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). Oriented with south to top (compass rose).

The troop rectangles are coloured according to nationality: English (red); Hanoverian (dark orange); Hessian (yellow); Dutch (dark blue); Austrian (green). The camp occupies the area of ground between the two rivers: Grote Nete and Kleine Nete, a distance of about 11 km (6.8 miles), stretching from Lier (51°07'52"N 04°34'13"E), east to Herenthals (51°10'35"N 04°49'56"E). The main part of the camp passes through Bevel (51°08'16"N 04°40'48"E), a few outposts of British and Dutch troops are encamped near Bauvel (i.e. Bouwel).
