A map of the lines and encampment of the Allied army at St Peter's Hill, Maastricht, 16-25 July 1747. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). Oriented with west to top (compass rose).

The fortified line and encampment shown here on the west bank of the Meuse were part of the Allied army encampments which were made to the south and east of Maastricht after the Battle of Lafelt (2 July 1747), and while the siege of Bergen op Zoom (14 July-18 September 1747) was being conducted. The geographical relationship between the camp at St Peter's Hill and the rest of the army is shown on RCIN 730142. The regiments listed in the key as being present in July at this location are: Sommerfeldt, Hessian Grenadiers, Wurmbrand, Charles de Lorraine, Damnitz, Botta, Neuperg (Austrian), Johnson, Cornwal Anglois, Seckendorff, Thüring, and Bavarian Guards. The area covered extends from the outskirts of Maastricht southwards to the castle of Lichtenberg (now in ruins: 50°49'21"N 05°41'39"E) and further south to Gaster (now a small hamlet, Caster, in the Walloon Region of Belgium, 50°48'30"N 05°41'17"E).
