An order of battle of the Left Wing of the Allied army at Alphen, April 1747. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). The tentative attribution to Serjeant John Anderson is made on stylistic grounds.
The names of all the commanding officers are given down to squadron/battalion level, together with the numbers of squadrons/battalions of each regiment. The regimental rectangles are coloured according to country of origin: British (red); Austrian; Hanoverian (yellow); Hessians (blue).
The General Officers of the First Line are Generals Sommerfeldt, Ligonier; Lieutenant-Generals Hawley, Dalwigh, Albemarle, Druchleben, Prince Hesse; Major-Generals Hammerstein, Zastrow, Wolffe; Brigadiers Bligh, Wreden, Douglas, Price, Borch.
The General Officers of the Second Line are Lieutenant-General Mansbach; Major-Generals Bland, Montigni, Yssenburg, Howard, Klinckowstrohm; Brigadiers Adelepsen, Houghton, Mordaunt, Block, Sporcken.
