An unfinished outline drawing of the main front of the French attack as of 28 August 1747, and lacking an explanation of the the letters A-C which appear to mark the breaches. The plan extends from the Runigon Lunette in the south-east to the Antwerp Ravelin towards the south-west.
The town of Bergen op Zoom, fortified by Baron Menno van Coehoorn (1641-1704; Dutch military engineer) and garrisoned under the command of General Isaac Cronström (1661-1752; a Swedish officer serving as General in Chief of the Dutch army), was besieged by the French army under the command of General Count Ulrich Löwendahl (1700-55; a German-born Danish officer serving in the French army), from 14 July to 18 September, when the fortified town was taken by the French.
