The plan shows the locations of the French and Allied army mines which had been sprung towards the end of August. The locations of the French mines are shown in yellow, those of the Allies in red. The detail is different to RCIN 730151.g, showing, in addition to the mines, the lines of fire, in red ink, from the French batteries. The bastions etc., are not named but appear to be the Coehoorn battery on the left and the Busell battery on the right, with the Diedem ravelin in the middle, flanked forwards by the Zeeland lunette on the left and the Utrecht lunette on the right.
The town of Bergen op Zoom, fortified by Baron Menno van Coehoorn (1641-1704; Dutch military engineer) and garrisoned under the command of General Isaac Cronström (1661-1752; a Swedish officer serving as General in Chief of the Dutch army), was besieged by the French army under the command of General Count Ulrich Löwendahl (1700-55; a German-born Danish officer serving in the French army), from 14 July to 18 September, when the fortified town was taken by the French.
